Winter is peak season for spa use — and, unsurprisingly, it’s also when we get the most questions through the inbox. Longer soaks, more frequent use, and colder weather all bring the same handful of questions back around every year. So rather than answer them one at a time, here’s the full rundown on the four we hear most, plus a few extra winter tips while we’re at it.

What’s actually in Crystal Clear Spas products?

It’s a fair question, and one we’re always happy to answer plainly: a proprietary blend of fermentable ingredients, including cane sugar, molasses, yeast, and a natural surfactant. That’s the whole list. No harsh chemical load, no complicated by-products — just a natural enzyme system designed to break down the organic matter that builds up in spa water over time.

Where should I store my Crystal Clear Spas products?

Store your products away from direct sunlight and heat. A cool, dark place is ideal — and if you’ve got room, the door of your fridge is the best spot of all. Just make sure you don’t freeze it, as that affects the ingredients.

What is a filter sleeve, and do I need one?

A filter sleeve is a simple accessory that ties onto your cartridge filter. Its job is to capture organic waste before it reaches your spa’s actual filter — which means less gunk making its way into the system, and a noticeably easier filter maintenance routine for you. Through winter, when spas tend to get more frequent use, a filter sleeve is one of the easiest upgrades to make.

Do I need a sanitiser alongside Crystal Clear Spas?

We recommend everyone use a sanitiser alongside our products. That’s our general guidance. At the same time, we understand some people choose not to — whether that’s chemical sensitivity, respiratory issues, or general health considerations — and we respect that it’s a personal decision. If you’re unsure what’s right for your household, reach out and we’ll help you weigh it up for your specific setup.

A few extra tips for winter spa care

While we’re on the topic of getting the most out of your spa this time of year, a few things worth keeping in mind:

Run your filtration system for 4 to 6 hours a day. That’s the range we recommend for the best water quality, and it holds true across the seasons.

Keep an eye on your pH. Crystal Clear Spas works across a broader pH range than most chemical systems, but you’ll still want to keep things stable between 7.6 and 8.2. Bicarbonate of soda brings it up, white vinegar brings it down.

Adjust your dosage to how often you’re using the spa. If you’re in the water four times a week or more, stick to the recommended dose on your Spa Drops bottle. Using it less than that, halve the dose. Not using it at all for a stretch, skip the dose entirely.

Got a question that’s not covered here?

These four come up more than any others, but they’re far from the only questions we get. Our full FAQ page covers everything from water changes to travel routines to product compatibility, and it’s always worth a look if something’s on your mind. Or, as always, just get in touch directly — we personally respond to every enquiry.
